Amaravati, June 7: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has announced Chintakayala Vijay, Bhashyam Ramakrishna and sitting Rajya Sabha member Sana Satish as its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Andhra Pradesh.
TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu handed over B Forms to the three nominees in the presence of senior party leaders, according to an official party statement issued on Saturday.
Expressing gratitude, Chintakayala Vijay said the party leadership had once again demonstrated that leaders and workers who stood by the TDP during challenging times would be recognised.
Vijay, currently the TDP State General Secretary and former president of Telugu Yuvatha in Andhra Pradesh, said he would fulfil the responsibility with dedication. He holds academic qualifications in political management and governance from institutions in India and the United States.
Another nominee, Bhashyam Ramakrishna, is the chairman of a private educational group with institutions across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. According to the party, he has received several awards in the education sector and has been involved in philanthropic activities through a charitable trust.
The trust has supported educational scholarships, health camps, blood donation drives, annadanam programmes and disaster relief initiatives in different parts of the country.
The ruling NDA alliance in Andhra Pradesh has decided that the TDP will contest three of the four Rajya Sabha seats scheduled for election on June 18, while alliance partner Jana Sena will contest the remaining seat.
At present, the YSR Congress Party holds seven Rajya Sabha seats, while the TDP has two. The composition is expected to change following the upcoming election.
In the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, the TDP holds 135 seats, followed by Jana Sena with 21 seats and the BJP with eight. The YSRCP currently has 11 MLAs.
