Parents and education stakeholders have expressed concern that while the government has introduced several welfare measures to attract students, vacancies in teaching posts remain unfilled.

As part of the annual school enrolment drive, government teachers conducted door to door campaigns across villages. Officials said 1,331 students have enrolled in government schools in the district this academic year, with many shifting from private institutions.

The district has 70 high schools, 43 upper primary schools and 81 primary schools. More than 18,000 students are currently studying in government schools.

Despite the increase in enrolment, 286 teaching posts remain vacant. These include six headmaster posts, 75 school assistants, 10 LFMHMs, three language pandits, 171 Secondary Grade Teachers (SGTs) and one Physical Education Teacher (PET).

Parents said the shortage of teachers has affected subject wise teaching in several schools. They urged the government to fill the vacancies to ensure quality education.

Officials said 39 schools in the district had been closed earlier, of which two have recently reopened. The remaining 37 schools continue to remain closed, with teacher shortages cited as one of the major reasons. Residents said many students have shifted to private schools due to the lack of teaching staff.

The government has introduced breakfast, mid day meals, free textbooks and uniforms in government schools to encourage enrolment. Public representatives have also appealed to parents to prefer government schools.

Education stakeholders believe that filling vacant teaching posts could further improve enrolment and strengthen the quality of education in government schools across the district.
