Hyderabad, Sept. 8: The Telangana Assembly was adjourned on Tuesday amid a heated exchange between the Opposition and treasury benches over Monday’s developments.
BRS members wearing black badges entered the well and demanded an unconditional apology from the government over alleged police action against its MLAs.
The treasury benches, meanwhile, demanded that Opposition Leader and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao apologise to the Speaker over remarks made by a BRS MLC.
BRS Demands Action Over Police Conduct
BRS Deputy Floor Leader T. Harish Rao raised the issue soon after the House began proceedings. He demanded an apology over the alleged assault on BRS MLAs Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy.
Harish Rao said cases had been registered against the two MLAs despite their allegations of police assault. He described the incident as an attack on women legislators in the State.
Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar responded that he had great respect for the women MLAs. He said he had sought a police report on the incident.
Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu said the government had also sought a report. He assured the House that appropriate action would follow based on the findings.
Meanwhile, SC and ST Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman demanded an unconditional apology from K. Chandrashekhar Rao over remarks made by a BRS MLC against the Speaker.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was not present in the House during the proceedings. The BRS members continued their protest before the Assembly was adjourned.
