- Budget allocations target welfare, agriculture, irrigation
- Cabinet meet to approve Telangana budget for 2026-27
Hyderabad: The Telangana government has reportedly finalized its budget for the financial year 2026-27, with a strong focus on welfare, agriculture, and irrigation sectors. The budget aims to implement promises and meet the future needs of people. Discussions indicate that significant allocations will be made to these key areas.
Meanwhile, the government is also likely to allocate special funds for aspects outlined in the Telangana Vision-2047 document. It is expected to prioritize the implementation of assurances made to the public. A cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, will take place at 9:30 am in the Assembly Committee Hall to approve the budget.
Welfare Schemes And Agriculture Growth In Telangana
The government had presented a budget of Rs. 3.04 lakh crore for the financial year 2025-26. However, revenue is expected to increase further in the coming year. Officials estimate that funds from the Centre will also rise. Therefore, the upcoming budget may exceed last year’s figures, with projections suggesting it could reach around Rs. 3.26 lakh crore.
Moreover, as the Congress government completes two years in power, it is focusing on fulfilling promises made to the public. Large allocations are expected for BC, SC, ST, and women’s welfare. The government is also preparing to allocate funds for fine rice distribution. At the same time, agriculture may receive higher funding compared to other states. Schemes such as Rythu Bharosa, Rythu Bima, and bonuses for fine paddy are likely to receive major support.
In addition, irrigation projects will receive attention. Around Rs. 5,000 crore may be needed for land acquisition. Projects such as Tummidihatti, Sitarama, Palamuru-Rangareddy, Kodangal Narayanpet lift schemes, and SLBC are expected to be prioritized. The government is also planning to provide EV scooters to young women, with funds likely to be allocated for this initiative. Education sector funding may also see an increase.
Furthermore, the budget may include allocations for employee-related commitments. These include PRC implementation, DA releases, and pending dues for retired employees. Funds are also expected for projects like Musi rejuvenation, Regional Ring Road, airports, Metro second phase, skill and sports universities, and integrated residential hostels.
The government is also aiming to utilize central schemes by providing matching grants. However, the Centre has set a condition requiring states to bear 40 percent of employment guarantee costs. This may put an additional burden of around Rs. 1,800 crore on the state. Accordingly, provisions are likely in the budget.
At the same time, the state has requested exemptions under FRBM for integrated residential schools and sought reduced interest rates on loans taken during the previous BRS government. If approved, it may allow the state to borrow more and allocate additional funds for welfare and development programs.
