Hyderabad, August 13 (Maxim News): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged voters to protect eligible names on electoral rolls amid concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
He alleged that some groups were targeting Telangana after West Bengal.
Revanth Reddy made the remarks at the Minorities Excellence Summit in Hyderabad.
CM Revanth said reports claimed that around 70 lakh votes could face deletion in the state.
The Chief Minister asked party workers and Booth Level Agents to remain alert for the next ten days. He urged them to check voter lists carefully and prevent errors during the revision process.
He also asked workers to ensure that eligible voters do not lose their voting rights because of minor errors. He said every polling booth should have people who actively verify voter details.
CM Revanth Reddy Highlights Congress Stand on Secularism
Revanth Reddy also spoke about Congress and its position on secularism. He said Hindus and Muslims were like two eyes for his government and society.
He claimed that Congress had provided four per cent reservation for Muslims in Telangana. He also alleged that several attempts had been made to remove the quota.
The Chief Minister further said Congress would continue to support secular forces. He described the party as a genuinely secular political organisation.
Revanth Reddy also highlighted changes made to the Telangana Public Service Commission after his government took office. He alleged that the previous government failed to conduct even Group 1 examinations properly.
He said the government had restructured the commission and strengthened it on the lines of the Union Public Service Commission. He also said a retired Director General of Police was appointed as its chairman.
According to Revanth Reddy, the government conducted the Group 1 examination with greater transparency. He said legal challenges were also faced over attempts to cancel the examination.
The Chief Minister said the government presented its case before the Supreme Court through senior lawyers. He also referred to government appointments given to boxer Nikhat Zareen and cricketer Mohammed Siraj.
Revanth Reddy’s remarks come amid a politically sensitive debate over electoral roll revisions. The SIR process has triggered concerns among political parties and voter groups in several states.
The Chief Minister called on voters and party workers to verify electoral records carefully. He stressed that eligible citizens should not lose their voting rights because of errors or omissions.
He also urged booth level workers to coordinate closely during the revision period. The focus, he said, should remain on protecting the voting rights of eligible citizens. (Maxim News)
