Hyderabad, July 25: The Director of Public Health (DPH), Telangana, Dr. B. Ravinder Nayak, on Friday said the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in the State is only a mild seasonal uptick and urged elderly people and those with comorbidities to take basic precautions.
He said there is no evidence of increased disease severity or the emergence of any new variant of concern.
Dr. Ravinder Nayak advised senior citizens and individuals with underlying health conditions to avoid crowded or poorly ventilated places and follow basic health precautions.
He said these preventive measures are also appropriate for protecting against other respiratory illnesses that are commonly reported during the current influenza season.
The DPH said the Telangana Health Department is continuously monitoring the COVID-19 situation in coordination with the Government of India.
According to Dr. Nayak, surveillance is being carried out in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
He added that the current rise in COVID-19 cases is consistent with the seasonal trend observed during the same period last year and does not indicate any unusual public health concern.
