Telangana Employees Seek Five Day Workweek Implementation

Hyderabad, May 15: The Joint Action Committee, JAC, of employees, teachers, gazetted officers, workers and pensioners has urged the Government of Telangana to implement a five day workweek for State government employees.

The employee unions submitted a letter to the government seeking implementation of the same policy already followed by the Central government and several public sector undertakings.

JAC Chairman Maram Jagadiswar and General Secretary Eluri Srinivas Rao stated that the proposal aligns with ongoing energy conservation measures being discussed across the country.

The employee leaders said the decision would help reduce fuel consumption and pollution while also improving employee safety and work life balance.

JAC Suggests Revised Office Timings

According to the proposal, office timings could be revised from the present 10.30 am to 5 pm schedule to 10 am to 6 pm, similar to the timings followed by Central government employees.

The JAC stated that the move would support fuel saving measures at a time when governments are encouraging reduced energy consumption amid global economic uncertainties.

The employee unions also pointed out that reducing commuting days would help lower traffic congestion and transportation costs for employees.

Leaders of the Employment JAC said they have been raising the demand for a five day workweek for a long time and renewed their appeal to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to take an early decision on the matter.

The representation comes amid wider discussions across several states on adopting cost cutting and energy conservation measures following rising fuel prices and global economic concerns.

The Telangana government has not yet issued any official response regarding the proposal.
