An order was issued by the Industries and Commerce Department of the State for payment of the income tax incurred by IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu. The order stated that the income tax for the financial year 2024-25, amounting to Rs. Rs. 1,38,061 will be paid by the State government. This decision is made in accordance with the AP Payment of Salaries and Removal of Disqualifications Act, 1953.

The sanctioned amount will be debited to the Council of Ministers salary account and credited to the Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, TDS Circle, Hyderabad. This move ensures that a minister’s income tax obligations are met without any financial burden on him, which would mean that income is personal, but tax is mandatorily a burden on the State government.

This government order has raised many eyebrows. Traditionally, income tax is to be deducted from the income of the ministers themselves.  (Maxim News)
