According to official sources, the Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda police commissionerates will soon be restructured into a total of 12 police zones.

As part of the proposed changes, the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate will be divided into six zones. Meanwhile, the Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissionerates will each be divided into three zones. The restructuring aims to improve policing efficiency, supervision, and coordination across the rapidly expanding urban region.

Sources indicated that within the Hyderabad Commissionerate, the Shamshabad and Rajendranagar zones are likely to be merged.

In addition, the Shamshabad Airport area is expected to be brought fully under the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate’s jurisdiction. This move is intended to streamline law enforcement and airport security management.

The police reorganisation follows the recent expansion of the GHMC limits. With the merger of 27 surrounding municipalities, the Greater Hyderabad area now comprises 300 wards, 60 circles, and 12 administrative zones.

The civic restructuring process has already been completed at the municipal level.

In line with this, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan recently allotted zonal commissioners to all 12 civic zones.

Subsequently, orders were issued on Saturday assigning deputy municipal commissioners to all 60 circles. Officials said these steps were taken to strengthen decentralised governance and service delivery.

The Telangana Police Department is aligning its jurisdictional structure with the new GHMC framework. Senior officers believe that matching police zones with municipal zones will enhance coordination between civic and law enforcement agencies.

As a result, response times, crime prevention, and public grievance redressal are expected to improve.

Officials stated that the reorganisation will also help manage population growth, infrastructure expansion, and rising urban security challenges.

Hyderabad and its surrounding regions have witnessed rapid development, leading to increased demands on policing resources.

The proposed zonal structure will enable closer monitoring by senior officers and improve accountability at the field level.

Each zone will have dedicated supervisory officers responsible for law and order, crime control, traffic management, and public safety initiatives.

Police headquarters is expected to issue detailed orders regarding postings and operational jurisdiction once the restructuring receives final approval. The changes are likely to be implemented in phases to ensure a smooth transition.

Officials emphasised that the reorganisation reflects the government’s broader focus on modernising the Telangana Police Department. They said the objective remains to deliver effective policing while adapting to Hyderabad’s expanding metropolitan footprint. (Maxim News)
