Telangana voter list revision | Hyderabad, May 14: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has triggered concern among major political parties in Telangana ahead of future elections.
The voter list revision process has already created political controversy in states such as Bihar and West Bengal. Political parties in Telangana are now taking precautionary measures to avoid possible issues related to deletion or addition of voters.
Leaders believe that any delay in responding to the Election Commission’s process could affect future electoral prospects. As a result, parties have started strengthening their ground level networks in advance.
The Election Commission of India has allowed political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) under every Booth Level Officer (BLO) jurisdiction.
Party leaders say BLAs play a crucial role in verifying voter details, identifying migrated voters and updating records of deceased voters.
Telangana voter list | Parties Focus On Booth Level Monitoring
Political parties are now actively appointing BLAs across constituencies to closely monitor the revision process.
Leaders said BLAs can help provide accurate local information to BLOs and reduce errors during preparation of voter lists.
The responsibility of appointing BLAs has largely fallen on sitting MLAs and former legislators.
Sources said both Indian National Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi have already submitted names for several constituencies to district collectors and election officials.
However, some constituencies are still pending.
Telangana voter list | Parties Face Problems In Hyderabad
Political parties are reportedly facing major difficulties in appointing BLAs in urban areas, especially within Hyderabad and surrounding Greater Hyderabad regions.
Party leaders said residents in gated communities and upscale colonies are not showing interest in working as booth agents.
Even when volunteers come forward, they often lack complete knowledge about local residents and voter details.
Officials said many gated communities in Hyderabad developed only in recent years. A large number of residents are professionals who migrated from different districts and states for jobs and education.
This has created difficulties in verifying whether voters still hold voting rights in their native places or whether duplicate entries exist.
Political leaders also pointed out that verifying details of deceased voters and obtaining supporting documents in urban areas remains a major challenge.
Several Constituencies Still Pending
During a recent internal meeting of the BRS, party president K Chandrashekar Rao reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over delays in submitting BLA lists for 29 constituencies.
Sources said some constituencies represented earlier by former ministers are also yet to finalise the lists.
Following the review, senior leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav held meetings with city leaders to speed up the appointment process in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, the ruling Congress party is also said to be facing delays in finalising BLA appointments in a few constituencies.
Political observers believe the Special Intensive Revision process could become a major administrative and political challenge in Telangana, particularly in rapidly growing urban regions where migration and changing demographics complicate voter verification.
