As part of this, as soon as the Congress party came to power in Telangana, it provided free bus travel to women. As part of the ‘Mahalakshmi’ scheme, which is one of the six guarantees, women are travelling free in city ordinary and express buses as well as Palle Velugu and express buses. TGSRTC officials have clarified that now this scheme will also be applicable in metro electric buses.

Keeping in mind the rush of passengers, TGRTC recently introduced new metro electric buses. Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Minister Ponnam Prabhakar launched the Green Metro Express non-AC electric buses. The government has decided to make another 500 buses available by August this year.

Currently, a total of 22 metro electric buses are available. However, even though electric vehicles are plying in the city, many women are not boarding them, wondering whether the travel in them is free or not. Since electric buses are more comfortable than regular buses, it is believed that free bus travel in them under the Mahalaxmi scheme is not applicable.

TGSRTC officials have responded to this issue. Stickers are being pasted on metro electric buses stating that the Mahalaxmi Free scheme is applicable. Officials said that TGSRTC has made non-A C electric metro buses with modern look and comfortable seating available for the convenience of the people. Therefore, RTC officials said that women can travel in these buses for free without any doubt. (Maxim News)
