The Vvaan | Force of the Forrest, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia, opened in theatres on Friday, September 25.
The film recorded an estimated Rs 8 crore net collection in India on its opening day, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
The film’s India gross collection stood at around Rs 9.6 crore. It registered the opening across 6,746 shows, according to the latest available box-office estimates. The film has received mixed to mediocre reviews so far.
The opening is higher than several Hindi films released earlier this month, including Kareena Kapoor’s Daayra and Kunal Khemu’s Vibe. Both films reportedly struggled at the box office, with collections of around Rs 1 crore.
Directed by Panchayat-fame Deepak Kumar Mishra in his feature-film debut, The Vvaan is rooted in Indian folklore. The film combines supernatural fantasy, mythology, action and thriller elements.
The Vvaan Faces a Crucial Weekend Test
The film’s opening comes after Sidharth Malhotra’s previous release, Param Sundari, opened at around Rs 8.7 crore gross. That film recorded a jump over the weekend but later struggled to sustain its momentum at the box office.
For Sidharth, The Vvaan is an important theatrical release. His last successful theatrical film was Kapoor & Sons, which also starred Alia Bhatt and Fawad Khan. The film earned Rs 143.4 crore worldwide against a reported budget of Rs 35 crore.
After Kapoor & Sons, Sidharth appeared in 11 films, none of which emerged as a major theatrical success. His widely praised film Shershaah was released directly on OTT during the pandemic.
The Vvaan therefore marks another attempt for the actor to revive his theatrical run. Its weekend performance will be important in determining whether the film can maintain its opening-day momentum.
Tamannaah Bhatia also returns to a leading role in a Hindi theatrical release after seven years. Her last Hindi feature film in a lead role to receive a theatrical release was Khamoshi, which co-starred Prabhu Deva.

Since then, Tamannaah has largely appeared in special song sequences and other appearances in Hindi films, including Stree and Raid 2.
The Vvaan also faced competition from Avengers: Endgame – Encore. The Marvel film was re-released alongside the Sidharth Malhotra-starrer and earned around Rs 8.68 crore gross across all languages on its opening day.
The English version contributed the largest share at around Rs 5.25 crore. Avengers: Endgame – Encore was screened across 3,635 shows.
The re-release features additional footage that connects the story to Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled for release in December.
The Vvaan is also part of a recent trend of Hindi films drawing from Indian folklore and mythology. Films and franchises such as Kantara, Lokah and Stree have explored similar themes.
