The BJP said the occasion marks a significant step as the party begins a new phase of organisational strengthening and political outreach under Dhillon’s leadership.

Party leaders and workers are expected to use the event to reaffirm their commitment to the BJP’s ideology, organisational growth, and vision for Punjab’s development. A large number of workers are likely to participate and extend support to the new state president.

The BJP appointed Dhillon, 75, as the Punjab unit chief on May 28, replacing Sunil Jakhar. Political observers view the move as part of the party’s strategy to project a Sikh face in the Sikh majority state ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

Dhillon served as a Congress MLA from Barnala between 2007 and 2017. However, he lost the 2017 Assembly election to AAP leader Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, who is currently a Member of Parliament.

He joined the BJP in June 2022 following the Congress party’s defeat in the Punjab Assembly elections. Since then, he has contested the Sangrur Lok Sabha by election in 2022 and the Barnala Assembly bypoll in 2024 on a BJP ticket but was unsuccessful in both contests.
