UAE, July 22: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has clarified that Indian passport holders are not automatically eligible for a visa on arrival. The facility is available only to Indians who hold a valid visa, permanent residence, or residence permit issued by specified countries.
The expanded rules, which came into effect on February 13, 2025, are aimed at making travel easier for eligible Indian nationals.
UAE Visa on Arrival Eligibility for Indians
Under the revised guidelines, Indian passport holders must have an ordinary passport with at least six months’ validity and possess a valid visa, Green Card, or residence permit issued by an eligible country.
Earlier, the facility was limited to holders of valid visas or residence permits from the United States, United Kingdom, and European Union member states.
The UAE has now extended the eligibility to Indian nationals holding valid visas or residence permits from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Singapore.
According to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the facility is available at all entry points into the country.
Eligible travellers must carry a passport valid for at least six months, a valid visa or residence permit issued by one of the approved countries, and any additional travel documents required by immigration authorities.
Authorities have advised travellers to ensure that their qualifying visa or residence permit remains valid on the date of entry, as airline staff and UAE immigration officials will verify the documents before permitting travel.
Eligible Indian travellers are generally granted a 14 day visa on arrival, which can be extended once for another 14 days, subject to applicable immigration rules and fees.
The UAE also clarified that simply residing outside India does not qualify a traveller for the facility. Indian passport holders living in countries not included in the approved list must obtain a UAE visa before travelling.
Travellers have been advised to check the latest immigration rules and applicable fees with UAE authorities or their airline before departure, as visa policies and charges may change.
