New Delhi/Hyderabad, July 14: Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu on Tuesday announced that the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) regional connectivity scheme has been extended for another 10 years, with the Centre aiming to significantly expand India’s aviation infrastructure.
Speaking to the media after meeting Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in New Delhi, the Union Minister said the government plans to invest Rs 30,000 crore to develop 100 new airports and 200 heliports under the next phase of the UDAN scheme.
Ram Mohan Naidu said the Centre’s vision is to transform India into a global aviation hub by strengthening regional connectivity and expanding airport infrastructure across the country.
He noted that the expansion of the UDAN scheme would improve connectivity to smaller cities while promoting economic development and tourism.
The Union Minister said the government is working to complete the Warangal Airport project by June 2, 2028.
He added that Mamunur Airport in Warangal district will be developed into one of the country’s best airports, with the terminal building designed to reflect Kakatiya architecture and heritage.
According to him, tenders for the boundary wall and runway have already been prepared, while tenders for the terminal building are expected to be invited within the next three to four weeks.
Ram Mohan Naidu appreciated the Telangana government for handing over 253 acres of land for the Warangal Airport project in record time.
He said there is no delay in the project and that both the Central and State governments are working closely to expedite construction.
The Minister also said that the Centre and Telangana government are jointly planning a defence-civilian airport in Adilabad.
He noted that around 1,500 acres of land are required for the project and said land acquisition by the State Government has helped accelerate the process.
Responding to political questions, Ram Mohan Naidu said the Central Government does not discriminate between NDA-ruled and non-NDA states while implementing infrastructure projects.
He stressed that cooperation between the Centre and State governments is essential for timely completion of development projects, while noting that land acquisition remains the responsibility of state governments.
