Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Union Budget 2026-27, accusing the government of ignoring India’s real economic and social crises. He said the Budget failed to address key challenges facing the country and showed a lack of course correction at a critical time.
Responding soon after the Budget presentation, Rahul Gandhi said the Union Budget 2026-27 did not tackle core issues affecting millions of citizens. He pointed to unemployment, falling manufacturing growth, capital outflows, declining household savings, and agrarian distress as major concerns. Meanwhile, he said the government appeared disconnected from ground realities.
“Youth without jobs. Falling manufacturing. Investors pulling out capital. Household savings plummeting. Farmers in distress. Looming global shocks — all ignored. A Budget that refuses course correction, blind to India’s real crises,” Gandhi said in a post on X. Therefore, he argued that the Budget missed an opportunity to respond to urgent national problems.
Other opposition leaders also criticised the Union Budget 2026-27. They said it lacked structural reforms and failed to offer meaningful steps to revive growth, create jobs, or support vulnerable sections amid global economic uncertainty. Meanwhile, they said the Budget did not inspire confidence among ordinary citizens.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav linked the stock market fall to the Budget. He accused the BJP of ignoring public concerns. “Here is the result of the BJP’s Budget — the share market has crashed with a bang. We had said earlier that the question was not whether the stock market would open on Sunday, but how much further it would fall,” he said in a post on X. Later, he alleged that the Budget serves only a small section of society.
“This Budget is meant for just five per cent of the people of India,” Akhilesh Yadav said. He claimed it was designed to “secure commissions and benefit the BJP’s own people.” He described it as “an invisible ledger of BJP-style corruption” and criticised the government’s priorities.
Meanwhile, he said the Budget ignores common people. “At a time when inflation is rising uncontrollably, the failure to provide tax relief amounts to outright ‘tax exploitation’,” he said. He added that while the wealthy received “ten kinds of exemptions” for business and travel, the unemployed were left with “an empty plate of hope”.
“The middle class feels completely cheated,” he said. He also said the poor and deprived sections appear to be sinking further. He criticised cuts in social security as “token formalities”. Later, he said farmers, labourers, workers, traders, and small shopkeepers found no relief. “Even with a telescope in hand, they cannot find anything meant for them. This is a deeply disappointing and deplorable Budget,” he said. (Maxim News)
