Waqf Board: CEO Mohammad Asadullah Barred from Waqf Duties

  • Telangana High Court Issues Interim Order Against Waqf Board CEO Amid Contempt Proceedings

Waqf Board | Hyderabad, August 8: The Telangana High Court has issued an interim order restraining Md. Asadullah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Telangana State Waqf Board, from discharging his official duties, pending the disposal of a contempt case (CC No. 2090 of 2025).

The case was heard by Justice Nagesh Bheemapaka on Thursday, August 7. The petitioner, Md. Kuthubuddin, represented by advocate Ram Chander Rao Vemuganti, filed two interlocutory applications (I.A. Nos. 1 & 2 of 2025) under Section 151 of the Code of Civil Procedure.

Waqf Board | Key Allegations and Legal Demands:

  • I.A. No. 1 of 2025 sought a direction to restrain Md. Asadullah from functioning as CEO of the Waqf Board, citing a prior order dated August 5, 2025, in a related writ petition (W.P. No. 22692 of 2025).
  • I.A. No. 2 of 2025 requested the Court to direct the Principal Secretary of the Minority Welfare Department, Sri B. Shafiullah, IFS, to immediately remove Asadullah and appoint a senior government officer (Joint Secretary rank or above) in his place, in the interest of better governance of Waqf institutions across the state.

Waqf Board | High Court’s Interim Decision:

After reviewing the petitions and the accompanying affidavits, the Court passed an interim order granting the requested directions until the next hearing date.

“There shall be interim direction as prayed for till the next date of hearing,” the order stated.

Notices have been dispatched to both respondents B. Shafiullah and Md. Asadullah — directing them to comply with the interim measures.

Background and Significance:
This legal move comes amid growing concerns and allegations over the functioning of the Telangana Waqf Board. The petitioner alleges administrative misconduct and seeks judicial intervention to safeguard the integrity and administration of Waqf properties in the state.
