We Will Not Surrender Our Rights”: MLC Amer Ali Khan Announces Protest Rally Against Waqf Act
· Congress MLC to lead two-day Ambedkar Jayanti Yatra from Adilabad to Hyderabad under the slogan ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’
Hyderabad, April 13: Calling it a battle to protect the Constitution and the identity of India’s largest minority, Congress MLC Amer Ali Khan on Sunday announced a two-day protest rally from Adilabad to Hyderabad to oppose the controversial Waqf Amendment Act.
Addressing a press conference, Amer Ali Khan said the rally would begin tomorrow (Monday), on April 14, marking Ambedkar Jayanti, and culminate in Hyderabad the next day. Organised under the banner “Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan,” the rally aims to awaken mass resistance to what he described as a systematic attempt by the BJP-led Central Government to weaken the Muslim community and seize control of Waqf institutions.
“This is not just a legal amendment – it’s a brutal assault on our rights, our culture, and our future,” Amer Ali Khan said. “If we allow this to go unchallenged, it will not stop at Waqf. It will target every institution that empowers our community.”
The MLC said the rally would start at 9:00 AM from Adilabad and reach Nirmal by afternoon. The convoy would then proceed to Nizamabad at 3:00 PM. On April 15, the rally would resume at 9:00 AM from Nizamabad to Kamareddy and then move to Hyderabad by 3:00 PM.
Amer Ali Khan warned that the Waqf Amendment Act, passed recently by Parliament, violates the constitutional guarantees under Articles 25, 26, 29, and 30, which uphold religious freedom and protect the rights of minorities to manage their institutions. “By giving sweeping powers to the Centre and weakening State Waqf Boards, this Act strikes at the heart of minority autonomy,” he said.
He alleged that the Centre’s intent was not administrative reform but asset control. “Waqf lands, mosques, dargahs, and educational trusts built over centuries through public donations are now being eyed for commercial exploitation. This is nothing but organised disempowerment,” he added.
Choosing Ambedkar Jayanti as the launch date, Amer Ali Khan said the rally was a tribute to the architect of the Constitution, whose values of justice, liberty, and equality were under threat. “Dr Ambedkar gave us the legal shield to protect our rights. Today, we must carry his legacy forward by defending that shield,” he said.
The Congress MLC also made a passionate appeal to civil society, Dalit organisations, backward class groups, and human rights defenders to unite in protest. “This is not a Muslim issue. This is a constitutional issue. Every citizen who believes in democracy should raise their voice,” he said.
During the rally, Amer Ali Khan will hold local interactions in Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, and Kamareddy with students, scholars, lawyers, and community elders to spread awareness. He described the yatra as the beginning of a larger movement to challenge the BJP’s majoritarian agenda.
“This is not just a political march—it is a moral and constitutional duty. If Waqf is taken away today, our religious, educational, and social institutions will collapse tomorrow. The time to act is now,” he declared. He reaffirmed the rally’s message: “Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan is not a slogan. It is a call to defend our identity, our freedom, and the very spirit of the Constitution.” (Maxim News)
