Will The Courts Poison Children? Supreme Court Angered Over NCERT Book Controversy

Delhi/Hyderabad, Feb 25 (Maxim News): The Supreme Court has expressed its anger over the mention of corruption in the judiciary in the Class 8 textbook published by NCERT. It questioned whether students are being poisoned by the judiciary. It asked whether the curriculum taught to students should include lessons that denigrate the judiciary. “This is a matter that needs to be taken seriously. Action will be taken against anyone who denigrates the judiciary,” it said.

Justice Suryakanth made these comments when senior lawyers Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Singhvi raised the matter before the court. Taking suo motu cognisance of the matter, Justice Suryakanth expressed deep concern. He said that he is receiving many calls and messages from judges, including High Court judges. They are all expressing concern. “This is a matter that needs to be taken seriously.  Action will be taken against anyone who insults the judiciary,” he said.  

Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Singhvi, who mentioned in the court the inclusion of the word judicial corruption in the Class 8 text book published by NCERT, said that it is a very painful matter. They argued that it seems that an autonomous institution is being singled out without mentioning the corruption of political leaders and officials. They expressed concern that this is bringing the judiciary into disrepute.

Responding to this matter, the Chief Justice said that he is aware of this matter and action will be taken.  The CJI made it clear that the court will not tolerate any attack on the judiciary.  (Maxim News)
