Hyderabad: A six year old girl was allegedly murdered by her mother in Alwal, with police suspecting the crime was linked to an extramarital affair.
According to police, the accused woman, Rekha, allegedly believed that her daughter Tanvika was becoming an obstacle to her relationship with another man.
Investigators said the child was allegedly killed after being thrown into a water tank.
Hyderabad police uncover murder during missing case probe
Police said the incident came to light on Saturday after Rekha initially claimed that her daughter had gone missing.
During the investigation, officers noticed inconsistencies in her statements. Further inquiry reportedly revealed that the child had been murdered and her body dumped in the water tank.
The Alwal police registered a case and took Rekha along with her alleged lover, Sai, into custody for questioning.
Officials said further investigation is underway to establish the complete sequence of events and gather additional evidence in the case.
