Hyderabad: A 30-year-old woman was allegedly kidnapped and held captive for four days in Bengaluru over an unpaid debt, with the accused allegedly assaulting her and recording a video to threaten her, police said.
The incident came to light after the woman approached the police with a complaint. Four people have been arrested in connection with the case.
According to the complaint, the woman from Sunkadakatte had borrowed Rs 1 lakh from Reshma Banu and Rs 50,000 from Nazrat Begum around two years ago. She allegedly fell behind on repayments after facing financial difficulties.
On August 27, Nazrat Begum allegedly called the woman to her house, claiming that she would provide her with work. When the woman arrived, Reshma Banu, her husband Suhail and another person identified as Saif allegedly attacked and threatened her with a knife.
Woman Allegedly Held Captive Over Rs 11 Lakh Demand
The accused allegedly took the woman to Reshma Banu’s house in Kumbhalgarh, where she was allegedly confined for four days and assaulted.
Police said the accused allegedly demanded Rs 11 lakh plus interest, despite the original loans totalling Rs 1.5 lakh.
The woman further alleged that the accused recorded a video of her on August 29 and threatened to circulate it on social media if she failed to pay the demanded amount. She also alleged that the accused threatened to force her into prostitution.
Acting on her complaint, police arrested Reshma Banu, Suhail, Nazrat Begum and Saif.
A case has been registered against the accused on charges related to kidnapping, assault and offences under the Information Technology Act. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
