Hyderabad: The Illendu Municipal Chairman election has been postponed to tomorrow after the ruling Congress party failed to reach a consensus on the chairman and vice chairman posts. Officials confirmed that the swearing in of the new governing council will now take place at 11 am on Tuesday.
The decision came after winning councilors did not turn up on time. As a result, the scheduled oath taking ceremony could not proceed as planned. Therefore, authorities deferred the process to the next day.
Congress fails to reach consensus on chairman post
The election of the chairman and vice chairman of the Illendu Municipality was expected to take place earlier. However, the ruling Congress party did not arrive at an agreement on the selection of the municipal chairman and vice chairman. Meanwhile, discussions continued among party leaders and members.
Local leaders said that the discussions held by the Congress party leaders with members did not reach a consensus on the first day of the council meeting. Consequently, the uncertainty over the chairman post delayed the proceedings.
RDO Madhu reschedules oath taking to 11 am Tuesday
Election officer and Kothagudem RDO Madhu postponed the swearing in of the new governing council chairman and vice chairman to 11 am tomorrow. He stated that the oath taking ceremony for the election of the new municipal governing council will be held at 11 am on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, officials cited the absence of winning councilors at the scheduled time as another reason for the delay. Therefore, the Illendu Municipal Chairman election will now take place a day later than planned.
The postponement has drawn attention in local political circles. However, authorities have confirmed that the process will continue on Tuesday at the specified time.
