Your Bank Account Will Be Freezed: Check Why and What to Do

Hyderabad, Dec. 30 (Maxim News): The Cyber Crime Wing of Hyderabad Police has issued a clear warning that bank accounts can be frozen if they are found linked to cyber fraud or unlawful financial activity. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crimes, V. Aravind Babu explained the reasons behind such action and advised citizens on how to protect themselves and respond if their accounts are frozen.

According to the cyber crime police, fraudsters often take control of bank accounts by pretending to offer business loans. Later, they use those accounts to commit cyber scams. In such cases, police authorities freeze the accounts to prevent further misuse. Similarly, accounts may also be frozen when illegal money obtained through cyber crimes is routed for purchasing USDT or other cryptocurrencies. Fraud buyers use unsuspecting individuals’ accounts to move illegal funds, which leads to police action.

Why police freeze bank accounts in cyber crime cases

The police said money received through online gaming and betting, fake investment apps, and illegal instant loan apps is often linked to cyber fraud. Any amount credited through such sources is considered illegal and may trigger account freezes by multiple police authorities. Receiving money from unknown persons also carries high risk, as such funds may originate from cyber crime cases.

Business establishments were advised to verify the buyer’s identity and confirm the bank account from which payments are made. Failure to do so may result in account freezes if the money is later traced to cyber fraud.

The DCP warned against selling or sharing bank accounts for commission. Cyber criminals often target students, unemployed youth, drivers, and daily wage workers with promises of easy money through Telegram or WhatsApp. Allowing others to use one’s account makes the person a money mule, which is a serious criminal offence. Individuals remain legally responsible for all transactions done through their accounts, even if they did not personally carry them out.

What to do if your bank account is freezed

If an account is frozen, citizens should visit their bank branch to obtain details of the police authority that issued the freeze. In cases of multiple freezes, details of all concerned authorities must be collected. The affected person should then contact the respective police stations and submit a request for unfreezing along with KYC documents, bank statements, and justification for disputed transactions.

After verification, police authorities issue an unfreeze notice to the bank. Once notices are received from all concerned agencies, the bank restores access. The police also advised closing unused accounts, reporting unusual transactions promptly, and reporting misuse through the 1930 Cyber Crime Helpline or cybercrime.gov.in. (Maxim News)
