New Delhi 9: Twenty four Indian crew members aboard a Palau flagged merchant tanker were rescued after a reported missile attack on the vessel off the coast of Oman, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) said on Tuesday.
The incident involved the tanker MT Marivex, which was anchored near Masirah, Oman, when the attack reportedly occurred on June 8.
According to the ICG, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai received information about the attack from a relative of one of the crew members onboard the vessel.
The tanker carried 24 crew members, all of whom were Indian nationals.
After receiving the alert, MRCC Mumbai established contact with the Oman Maritime Search and Rescue Centre and requested immediate assistance for the vessel and its crew.
Omani authorities launched a rescue operation by diverting a nearby vessel and deploying two rescue helicopters to the area. Rescue agencies from both countries remained in constant coordination throughout the operation.
Later on June 8, Omani authorities confirmed that all 24 crew members had been safely evacuated by helicopters of the Oman Navy.
The Indian Coast Guard said no casualties or injuries were reported. The vessel remains anchored off Masirah, Oman.
Officials said the operation demonstrated effective international maritime cooperation and strong coordination between rescue agencies in the region.
