Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy Unveils KCP Nutri Poshan Fortified Rice, First Such Initiative in Telugu States

Hyderabad, June 30, 2026: Telangana Irrigation & Command Area Development and Food & Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy unveiled KCP Nutri Poshan, a fortified rice range enriched with eight essential micronutrients, describing it as an important step toward improving nutritional security while highlighting Telangana’s growing leadership in rice production.

The Minister launched the product during a workshop titled “Unlocking Market Potential: Advancing Fortified Rice in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh” held at Hyderabad.

The event was organised by Millers for Nutrition, powered by TechnoServe, in collaboration with KCP Nutrritious Pvt. Ltd., and brought together rice millers, nutrition experts, policymakers and food industry stakeholders.

Addressing the gathering, Uttam Kumar Reddy said Telangana has emerged as India’s leading state in both rice production and procurement.

He stated that the state currently produces nearly 300 lakh metric tonnes of rice annually across Kharif and Rabi seasons, while domestic consumption stands at approximately 36 lakh metric tonnes.

“We consume only a fraction of what we produce. Exports represent the next major growth opportunity for Telangana’s rice industry,” he said.

The Minister announced that the State Government is preparing a dedicated rice export policy aimed at supporting rice millers and helping them access national and international markets.

He noted that Telangana has already started exporting rice to countries including the Philippines and reiterated continued government support for the rice milling sector.

KCP Nutri Poshan has been launched with fortification using eight micronutrients:

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)
  • Vitamin B3 (Niacin)
  • Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)
  • Vitamin B9 (Folate & Folic Acid)
  • Vitamin B12
  • Iron
  • Zinc

The product will initially be available in rice varieties including Kolam, HMT and Sona Masoori.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said fortified rice retains the taste and cooking characteristics of conventional rice while improving nutritional value.

“Health should not become a chore or a pill—it should be on your plate,” he said.

Industry and Nutrition Experts Highlight Benefits

Monojit Indra, Senior Practice Leader at TechnoServe and Program Leader for Millers for Nutrition Asia, said food fortification offers a scalable approach to improving public nutrition by strengthening foods already consumed daily.

Srree Vaishnavvi O, CEO of KCP Nutrritious Pvt. Ltd., said the company’s objective is to make nutrition easier and more accessible without changing consumer eating habits.

Abhishek Shukla, Country Program Manager for Millers for Nutrition India, said increasing availability and awareness of fortified staple foods can help bridge nutritional gaps.

KCP Nutrritious announced that the product rollout will initially focus on Telangana and Andhra Pradesh through retail stores, modern trade channels, e-commerce and quick-commerce platforms, supported by consumer awareness campaigns.

The event concluded with expert sessions and panel discussions focused on food fortification, public health and the future of fortified staple foods.
