Sources indicated that the UGC has actively considered the representations by teachers’ bodies and official guidelines may soon be released regarding this change. This step is seen as crucial for incorporating international research experience into university faculty promotion criteria While  IITs, NITs, and central universities, consider foreign post-doctoral experience of researchers for promotion, state universities do not have it as a criterion.

The Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM) Telangana State had urged the  UGC on this vexed issue which affects several faculty across State Universities.  The  ABRSM representatives noted that recognizing such experience in state universities could enhance research activities, attract more MoUs, funding, and projects, and potentially improve the NIRF ranking of these institutions. They expressed hope that UGC will issue clear guidelines on this matter soon.
