Diplomatic Momentum and Cultural Reconnect

Dr. Jaishankar also underlined that 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of India-China diplomatic relations, a milestone that both nations are acknowledging through renewed engagement. He welcomed China’s resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, which has historically been a significant cultural and spiritual link between the two countries.

Path to Normalisation After Border Tensions

The visit comes at a time when both nations are actively working to rebuild trust following the Galwan Valley standoff in 2020. Since the Modi-Xi meeting, several senior Indian leaders, including National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, have visited China for discussions aimed at de-escalation and normalization.

This visit by Jaishankar is expected to further that dialogue, focusing on economic cooperation, border stability, and multilateral collaboration through platforms like the SCO.
