Polycet 2025: 65.5% Seats Filled in First Phase; Govt Colleges in High Demand

Hyderabad, July 16 (Maxim News): The Telangana Department of Technical Education has announced that 65.5% of the total seats have been filled in the first phase of Polycet 2025 counselling, with a clear shift in student preference towards government polytechnic colleges.

The seat allotment process, originally delayed due to a technical glitch that erased data from the official website, resumed after a week and concluded on Tuesday — ten days behind schedule. Despite the delay, the process has now successfully completed its first phase.

According to official data:

  • 82% of seats in government polytechnic colleges were filled.
  • Only 50% of seats in private colleges saw takers.
  • A total of 10,012 seats remain vacant after the first round.
  • Around 2,000 students did not receive allotments even though they submitted web options.

Notably, six colleges achieved 100% admissions in the first round — five government colleges and one private institution.

Quota and Reporting Details

  • 713 seats were filled under the EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) quota.
  • The NCC and Sports quota seats will be allotted in the final round of counselling.

Candidates who have been allotted seats must:

  • Pay the fee and self-report online by July 18.
  • Report to their respective colleges between July 28 and 30. Failure to do so will result in loss of the allotted seat.

Academic Schedule

  • Orientation programs for admitted students will be held from July 28 to 30.
  • First semester classes will commence on July 31.
  • Centralized internal sliding will be held on August 2 and 3. This will allow students to change branches within the same college if vacancies exist.

The results reflect a growing trust in government-run institutions, likely influenced by better infrastructure, faculty, and fee structure when compared to private polytechnic colleges. (Maxim News)
