Waqf Board | Hyderabad, August 23: Residents of Borabanda, under the Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency, have raised concerns over the shortage of burial space for the Muslim community in their area.
The demand for a new graveyard has grown stronger as existing facilities struggle to meet the needs of a rising population.
Currently, the Sanjay Nagar graveyard near the Sriram Nagar slum is the only option available, and locals say it is inadequate. This has led to difficulties for families during times of bereavement, forcing them to look for burial spaces far from their locality.
A silent protest was held here today after Friday prayers residents expressing deep concern over the issue of the Muslim graveyard at Masjid-e-Noor in Borabanda.
Protesters stated that the Muslim community in Borabanda has long needed a dedicated Kabrastan (graveyard) and urged the government to immediately allocate suitable land for this purpose.
Waqf Board Faces Heat
Residents say they have been staging peaceful demonstrations every Friday after Namaz since long in a row, yet no official has visited the site to hear their grievances.
The community claims the absence of a proper graveyard has caused distress among families, and they demand swift action from the concerned authorities.
Local leaders appealed for urgent intervention, stressing that this is a long-pending demand tied to religious and community needs. The protest remained peaceful, with placards and silent gatherings capturing attention, but residents say they will continue until their demand is fulfilled.
