Asaduddin Owaisi Opens India’s First Passport Seva Kendra at Metro Station in Hyderabad
Asaduddin Owaisi | Hyderabad, Sept. 16: AIMIM Supremo and Hyderabad MP Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday inaugurated a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) at the MGBS Metro Station.
The facility is the first of its kind in India to be located inside a metro station, making passport services more accessible for citizens, especially in South Hyderabad (Old City).
The PSK at MGBS Metro Station will serve commuters on both the red and green metro lines. Officials highlighted that its strategic location is expected to ease passport application and renewal processes for thousands of residents.
The initiative fulfills a longstanding demand from Old City of Hyderabad, where access to government services has often been a challenge.
The event also marked the inauguration of the VFS centre for Saudi Arabia at the same metro station.
Hyderabad District In charge Minister Poonam Prabhakar formally inaugurated the facility, alongside Hyderabad Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Yadav, MLC Riyazul Hasan Effandi, Hyderabad District Collector Smt. Hari Chandana and Smt. J. Snehaja, who delivered the welcome address.

Speaking at the launch, officials said that setting up a PSK inside one of Hyderabad’s busiest metro hubs demonstrates an innovative approach to bringing essential services closer to the public.
The MGBS station, which connects multiple routes, was chosen for its high footfall and connectivity. The model could potentially be replicated in other cities if it proves successful.
Residents and commuters have welcomed the move, with many expressing relief that the new centre would reduce travel time and congestion at existing passport offices.
Authorities said the initiative will not only save time for applicants but also set a new precedent for delivering citizen services through urban transit hubs.
