According to the family, when they checked the doctor’s mobile phone after her death, disturbing details came to light. Unknown individuals had made repeated video calls to her, during which they manipulated her into transferring ₹6.6 lakh from her bank accounts to accounts specified by them. Unable to cope with the shock of being cheated, she reportedly slipped into deep anguish and kept the matter to herself. Her relatives believe that this emotional trauma led to her sudden heart attack.

The grieving family lodged a complaint with the city cybercrime police, who examined call records and banking transactions. Preliminary findings suggest that the harassment and financial fraud by cybercriminals played a direct role in her death. Police have registered a case and launched a probe to trace the culprits behind the scam.

Officials have reiterated warnings to the public—especially senior citizens—to remain cautious against such cyber frauds. They advised people to avoid responding to unknown calls or sharing personal and financial details online. Authorities further urged that any suspicious calls should be immediately reported to the police to prevent such tragedies.

This incident has once again highlighted the growing menace of cybercrime in Hyderabad, raising concerns about the vulnerability of the elderly to sophisticated online scams. (Maxim News)
