Asaduddin Owaisi Criticizes US H-1B Visa Fee Hike, Slams India’s Foreign Policy

Hyderabad: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly reacted to the recent hike in H-1B visa fees by the US administration, calling it a blow to Indian professionals and questioning the effectiveness of the Indian government’s diplomatic efforts.

Owaisi highlighted that Indians, particularly from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, have been the biggest beneficiaries of the H-1B visa system. “71–72% of all H-1B visas go to Indians. Telangana and Andhra Pradesh dominate this ecosystem. The average annual salary for Indian H-1B holders is around $120,000, mainly in the tech sector. For families back home, these salaries are a critical source of income and contribute significantly to India’s $125 billion remittance inflow. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana alone account for 37% of Indian NRI deposits,” he said.

He criticized the government, saying, “My complaint is not against Trump; he did what he wanted. My quarrel is with this government. What did you achieve with Howdy Modi and Namaste Trump? All those NRIs gathered at Madison Square Garden—what did that achieve? Birthday wishes are not foreign policy successes. The ending of H-1B visas targets Indians, and the US putting its relationship with India at risk shows it does not care about our strategic value.”

Owaisi Links Visa Issue to India’s Global Isolation

Owaisi also contextualized the visa issue within broader global developments. “Along with this, we must consider other recent US actions affecting India: enormous tariffs, the Pakistan-US trade agreement, and the Pakistan-Saudi deal, which could not have happened without US consent. India is in a hostile neighborhood and increasingly isolated globally,” he added.

He urged India to strengthen its economic and diplomatic position. “India has entered dedollarisation agreements with over 18 countries, including Qatar and many ASEAN nations. Trade settlements are happening in rupees. This approach must expand to all major trading partners. We must not cede an inch to Trump’s blackmail.”

Owaisi emphasized that this is not a political point-scoring exercise but a matter of national concern. “I do not derive pleasure from seeing this happen. The government must introspect on why India faces challenges in foreign policy and national security. Is it because these issues have been reduced to gimmicks? After all, it’s not Modi who suffers, but common Indians. Our long-term gains have been sacrificed for domestic posturing. 2014–2024 has been a lost decade,” he said.
