Delhi/Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said India has crossed 2.5 lakh registered startups, highlighting the country’s rapid growth in innovation, technology and entrepreneurship.
Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on the 80th Independence Day, Modi said India must move beyond being a global market and become a hub for innovation.
He identified artificial intelligence, quantum technology, space, robotics and data centres as key areas where India should build global leadership.
India Pushes Startup, AI and Electronics Growth
Modi said the Startup India initiative has created an ecosystem where young Indians are building businesses and generating employment.
He also highlighted the government’s ₹1 lakh crore Innovation Fund, aimed at supporting young innovators, research and new ideas.
The Prime Minister said India should take its digital public infrastructure to other countries and lead in next-generation technologies, including 6G.
He also announced that one crore young Indians will be trained in artificial intelligence skills over the next year.
Highlighting manufacturing growth, Modi said mobile phone production has increased 35 times over the past decade, while production of modern railway coaches has risen 21 times.
Electronics manufacturing has also expanded significantly as India strengthens domestic production capabilities.
Modi said the number of internet users and consumers has nearly quadrupled, while patents granted have also increased four-fold. Digital transactions, meanwhile, have risen 100 times.
He said initiatives such as Skill India, the National Drone Policy, space-sector reforms and the National Education Policy are creating new opportunities for India’s youth.
