Congress Fulfilled Promise Of Graveyard Land Allotment In Jubilee Hills: Shabbir Ali
Hyderabad, October 5: Advisor to Telangana Government and senior Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Sunday claimed that the Congress government had fulfilled its election promise of allotting land for a Muslim graveyard in Jubilee Hills.
He was speaking on the occasion of the formal announcement and ceremonial handover of one acre and five guntas of land near Masjid (Ghairabad) in Shaikpet, intended to serve residents of Rahmat Nagar, Erragadda, Borabanda, and neighbouring areas.
The announcement was made at a joint press conference held at H.F. Community Hall in Rahmat Nagar, Jubilee Hills, in the presence of Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and G Vivek Venkataswamy, Telangana State Wakf Board Chairman Syed Azmatullah Hussaini, TPCC Working President Md Azharuddin, TMREIS President Faheem Qureshi and several corporation chairpersons.
Shabbir Ali said the allotted land would be developed into a functional graveyard with essential amenities, including a boundary wall, watchman quarters, and arrangements for bathing and preparing bodies (ghusl and kafan). A local community committee would oversee the site’s development and upkeep. He added that an adjacent plot, currently facing access-related issues, would also be handed over once technical challenges were resolved.
He emphasised that the allotment was not merely a political gesture but a step towards dignity and justice for under-served communities. “This is not charity. This is a right. It was promised in our manifesto and we are now fulfilling it,” he said.
Responding to criticism from opposition parties, Shabbir Ali asserted that the Congress government was delivering inclusive development. “Whether it’s free bus travel for women, ration cards, or fine rice, these benefits are reaching Hindus, Muslims, Christians and all communities alike,” he said.
He noted that ration cards were being issued after a 13-year gap, and names of children born during that period were now being added. “The poorest among us, particularly Muslims, who waited for years, are finally receiving what they were entitled to,” he added.
Highlighting the state’s welfare initiatives, he pointed to the distribution of fine rice under the Public Distribution System, claiming that no other state in India was offering such high-quality grains. “This initiative is not selective. It benefits everyone, without religious bias,” he said.

On housing, Shabbir Ali highlighted the ‘Indiraamma Housing Scheme’, under which ₹5 lakh in financial aid is being provided for home construction. He said over 1,300 houses had been sanctioned for poor Muslims in Nizamabad Urban constituency alone, with similar projects underway across Telangana.
He reiterated that the Congress government was not favouring any one group. “Poor is poor – whether Hindu or Muslim. We are addressing poverty, not religion,” he stated.
On power subsidies, he noted that 200 units of free electricity were being provided to economically weaker households in urban slums and rural areas, regardless of caste or religion.
In the education sector, he praised the government’s efforts to open 65 new ITI colleges, including a modern facility in Nizamabad. “These colleges are equipping youth with advanced skills like robotic welding, garment automation, and food processing. Companies like Tata Consultancy Services have already offered to recruit students directly from these institutes,” he said.
He also spoke about upcoming integrated educational campuses planned across 25-acre plots, with dedicated infrastructure for SCs, STs, BCs, minorities, and economically weaker sections. “These campuses will promote national integration, with common playgrounds and shared classrooms. This is real secular development,” he said.
Taking a swipe at the previous BRS government, Shabbir Ali said they had failed to establish a single major professional institution for minorities during their decade in power. “In contrast, the Congress had set up six medical colleges, nearly 100 engineering colleges, and several law institutions across Telangana,” he noted.
He said the Congress government views all citizens through the same lens. “Chief Minister Revanth Reddy says he has four eyes — one each for SCs, STs, BCs, and minorities. That reflects the spirit in which we are governing,” he said.
He added that the minority finance corporation scheme, currently on hold due to financial constraints, would soon be revived. Under this, subsidies and interest-free loans between ₹50,000 and ₹1 lakh would be provided to support small businesses and self-employment among youth from minority communities.
Concluding the press conference, Shabbir Ali thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the ministers, and Wakf Board officials for taking swift action on a long-standing community demand. “The promise made in the manifesto is now a reality. The compound wall, ghusl facilities, and other infrastructure will follow. This is how governments should work – with accountability and commitment,” he said.
Later, Shabbir Ali participated in the foundation stone laying ceremony of TMREIS Girls Junior College at Erragadda, where the stone was laid by Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar in the presence of Minister G Vivek Venkataswamy and other leaders. Emphasising the role of education in women’s empowerment, Shabbir Ali highlighted initiatives taken during the previous Congress regime to uplift Muslim women through access to higher education.
He recalled that the 4% Muslim reservation introduced in 2004 under the Congress government paved the way for educational reforms, including the establishment of six medical colleges catering to minority students. As a result, 1,226 Muslim students, including 741 girls, secured MBBS admissions in 2024–25 across Telangana. He noted that the higher number of female admissions, especially under the BC-E quota, reflects the growing impact of reservation and the rising educational aspirations among Muslim women.
