Hyderabad, Oct 14 (Maxim News): The Telangana Cabinet will meet on the 16th of this month at 3:00 pm to discuss key issues linked to local elections and BC reservations.
State Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao issued orders on Tuesday directing all ministers to attend the meeting at the Cabinet Meeting Hall on the 6th floor of the Telangana Secretariat.
The meeting gains significance as the state also moves the Supreme Court on BC quota in local body polls.
The Chief Secretary’s orders made the timing and venue clear, and they mandated the presence of every minister.
Meanwhile, the meeting to be chaired by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is expected to focus on the Telangana High Court’s verdict affecting local elections and BC reservations.
Irrigation projects and several other issues are also likely to come up for discussion. Therefore, the session carries both legal and policy weight.
It is known that the Telangana High Court has stayed GO 9, which had provided 42% reservation for BCs in local body elections.
This stay has immediate implications for the conduct and schedule of local polls. Also, it has triggered a strategic and legal response from the state government, which has sought urgent relief at the national level.
On Tuesday, the state government filed a 40-page petition in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court’s order.
The hearing of the petition is likely to take place on Thursday. Therefore, interest has risen around how the Cabinet will align its decisions ahead of the Supreme Court hearing on reservations. This timing places the Cabinet’s deliberations at the center of a fast-moving legal process.
In this context, the importance of the meeting lies in the decisions the Cabinet may take to navigate the stay, protect the reservation framework, and ensure the administration’s readiness for local elections.
Also, with irrigation projects and other governance issues slated for discussion, the Cabinet faces a packed agenda. Then, the legal developments in the Supreme Court could shape the next steps for the state’s electoral roadmap. (Maxim News)
