- MANUU to host panel on women, technology and agricultural marketing
- Experts from academic and policy sectors to share insights at Hyderabad event
Hyderabad: A panel discussion on the theme “Women, Technology and Finance in Agricultural Marketing” will be held at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) on October 31, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Saiyid Hamid Library Auditorium on the university campus.
According to Professor Farida Siddiqui, Director of the Centre for Women’s Studies and Program Coordinator, the discussion is being organized in collaboration with the Department of Economics, MANUU, and the School of Economics, Hyderabad Central University. The session aims to explore the role of women, access to technology, and financial inclusion in shaping sustainable agricultural markets.
The academic collaboration brings together experts from multiple institutions, offering a platform for diverse perspectives on the intersection of gender, finance, and rural economic transformation. The panel features Professor Bala Chandra Mangekar, former Vice-Chancellor of Mumbai University, former Member of the Planning Commission, and a former Member of Parliament. Also on the panel are Professor Sujit Kumar Mishra, Regional Director at the Council of Social Development; Professor Shankar Chatterjee from the National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) in Hyderabad; and Professor Dhiresh Kulshrestha from Chitkara University, Punjab.
The event is expected to foster dialogue on how women’s participation in agricultural marketing can be enhanced through access to technology and institutional finance. Discussions are likely to highlight existing gaps and propose collaborative frameworks for academic institutions and policymakers to address the challenges women face in agricultural supply chains.
By bringing together economists, social scientists, and development practitioners, the panel aims to deepen understanding of gender-equitable practices in India’s rural markets. The MANUU event reflects a growing trend in academia to link gender studies with financial and technological empowerment for rural development.
