Hearing On Local Body Elections Case Postponed As Chief Justice Goes On Leave
Hyderabad, Nov 24 (Maxim News): The High Court on Monday postponed the hearing on the conduct of local body elections as the Chief Justice was on leave. The next hearing is likely to be held on Tuesday, reports said.
The petitioners had approached the court seeking directions for the conduct of local body elections, which have been pending for the last 18 months.
The State government informed the court that it was prepared to hold the elections. It has already issued guidelines for finalising reservations for wards and panchayats and the exercise has been completed in the districts. The official gazette on reservations is expected to be released today.
With the State Cabinet meeting scheduled for Tuesday, the government is expected to take up the matter and share reservation details with the State Election Commission without exceeding the 50 percent ceiling.
The election schedule is likely to be announced on Tuesday evening or Wednesday. (Maxim News)
