Telugu Language Remarks Spark Debate: Venkaiah Naidu’s Message
- Venkaiah Naidu urges Telugu states to promote Telugu language
- Former Vice President links jobs and education to Telugu usage
Former Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu made strong remarks on the need to promote the Telugu language. He said, “You can get a job only if you study Telugu,” while speaking at the Krishna Tarang 2025 celebrations held at Krishna University, Machilipatnam. His comments came during the event organised on Thursday on the occasion of Ramoji Rao Jayanti.
Naidu said that Telugu will be studied only if it is linked with jobs. He urged the Chief Ministers of the Telugu states to use Telugu in government functions. He added that this would be a great tribute to Ramoji Rao, the head of the Ramoji Group of Institutions. He recalled that the English made their language the official language and ruled the country. Therefore, he suggested that Telugu-speaking states must make Telugu the administrative language.
Naidu emphasizes mother tongue and administrative use of Telugu
Naidu said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is thinking of saving Indian languages. He stated that arrangements are being made to ensure that medical and engineering education is available in mother tongues. He also said that even if some people cannot speak English, they still write it on paper and speak it. He pointed out that many people think speaking English is the only way to be great. However, he stressed that the mother tongue should get priority, and sister languages should be learned later.
Former Vice President recalls his journey and stresses linguistic pride
Naidu shared his personal journey and said that he unknowingly participated in the anti-Hindi movement during his school days. He said he studied in a street school and later rose to the position of Vice President of India. He noted that there are 22 languages in the country. He added that orders have been issued allowing the use of any of these languages in the Rajya Sabha. His comments highlighted his long-standing belief in the importance of linguistic pride and the value of preserving Indian languages.
The event marked a significant moment as Naidu used the platform to repeat his call for promoting Telugu in administration, education, and public life. His remarks added fresh momentum to the ongoing debate on how regional languages should be used in governance and higher education.
