Hyderabad: Operation Kavach led to the seizure of around 1,600 vehicles during large late night checks carried out across Hyderabad. The police held the citywide drive on Friday night and inspected nearly 15,000 vehicles at different points. The effort involved multiple wings and aimed to improve public safety. Officers booked 105 cases during the checks.
The police conducted the cordon and search drive from 10.30 pm to 1 am at 150 locations. The input states that nearly 5,000 personnel took part in the operation. They checked documents of vehicles passing through each checkpoint. Officers seized vehicles that did not have valid papers. Meanwhile, the teams also detained eight people. They recovered half a kilogram of ganja in the Tukaram Gate area. The large force included the Law and Order wing, Task Force, Traffic Police and the Armed Reserve.
Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar visited Tolichowki, Gulzar Houz and other points in the South West Zone during the inspections. He monitored the checks and met teams deployed on the ground. Later, he moved to the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre in Banjara Hills. There, he reviewed CCTV feeds of checkpoints. He also held discussions with Joint Commissioner (Law and Order) Tafseer Iqubal and several SHOs on the performance of the drive.
Sajjanar said the initiative aimed to maintain public safety. He warned that action would follow against those travelling without proper documents. The checks, therefore, focused on enforcing rules and improving security. The input shows that the operation also placed attention on illegal substances and suspicious movement. The seizure of vehicles and recovery of ganja marked key outcomes of the night.
The police said they examined every vehicle that passed the checkpoints. They also noted that the drive brought together different wings to strengthen coordination. The large deployment reflected the scale of Operation Kavach and the focus on strict enforcement.
