Hyderabad: HYDRA saved government land worth Rs. 600 crores in Miyapur after officials removed encroachments on five acres. Officials said that HYDRA teams reached the area on Monday after locals complained about illegal occupation. They then cleared the land and fenced it to prevent further encroachment. The land includes the five acre maktamahab Kunta, which officials estimate at a value of around Rs. 600 crores.

Officials also removed 18 sheds that were set up along a 200 meter stretch of the pond bank parallel to the main road in Miyapur Bachupally. They vacated a private bus parking area located behind nearby shops. They acted after complaints that government land in Survey No. 39 and Survey No. 44/5 was being encroached upon. They later found that five acres were occupied by creating Survey No. 44/4 instead of Survey No. 44/5.

Locals complained that those running the sheds collected Rs. 50000 per month from each shed and up to Rs. 9 lakh. They also alleged that the group collected Rs. 8 lakh per month by giving space to private buses. Officials said that the occupied land was used as a car washing centre. They explained that the land was earlier given for mining, but the government refused an extension when the applicants sought it. They also said that the Serilingampally Tahsildar issued a notice in 2013 and removed similar structures.

Officials claimed that bigwigs are behind the encroachments. They named Kuna Satyangaud and Bandari Ashok Mudiraj. They said that the encroachment campaign appears to involve these individuals. They added that the current claimants do not have documents to support their ownership and instead say they have an agreement with another party. Officials said that it remains to be seen who the other people are.
