Hyderabad: The State Election Commission has imposed a ban on the assembling of three or more persons in public places in districts where elections are underway. The restriction will remain in force till 10 am on December 18. Officials said the decision relates to the third phase of the Telangana Gram Panchayat polls scheduled on Wednesday.

The Commission issued the orders on December 16. It said the restriction applies to poll bound districts and covers gatherings without lawful authority. Officials stated that the move aims to ensure peaceful polling during the third phase of the Telangana Gram Panchayat polls. Therefore, the ban seeks to prevent any situation that could affect the election process.

Meanwhile, the State Election Commission issued a detailed set of directions to district Collectors and the Police Department. The orders focus on maintaining public order, peace, and tranquillity during polling and vote counting. Officials said the directions will remain effective until polling and counting conclude in the concerned districts.

Under the orders, authorities have banned the carrying of arms, including licensed weapons. However, the Commission allowed exemptions where the competent authority has granted permission. The Commission also prohibited processions, rallies, public meetings, and demonstrations during the restriction period. These measures apply until the completion of polling and counting of votes linked to the Telangana Gram Panchayat polls.

The Election Commission also placed limits on the use of loudspeakers and public address systems. Officials said people may use such systems only with written permission from authorities. This rule aims to reduce disturbances and maintain calm during polling hours. Therefore, local administrations will monitor public activity closely during this period.

In addition, the directions instruct authorities to prevent activities that could disturb public peace or communal harmony. The Commission stressed the need to avoid any incident that could affect law and order during polling and counting. The Election Commission has tasked Collectors and police officials with enforcing the orders strictly. They will coordinate to ensure compliance with the restrictions in public places. Meanwhile, election officials continue preparations for the third phase of polling.
