Hyderabad, May 18: The Supreme Court has stayed the proposed felling of trees near Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park in Hyderabad in connection with the Grade Separator Corridor Project planned by the GHMC around the eco sensitive zone of the park.
The project was designed to ease traffic congestion in the busy Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills areas. Officials said the proposal aimed to improve connectivity while protecting the environment around KBR Park.
According to officials, the project follows a “zero park intrusion” policy. They stated that flyovers and underpasses would be constructed only within existing road medians without disturbing park land.
Authorities also clarified that no trees inside KBR Park would be cut for the project. They said only trees located in central medians outside the park area would be shifted using transplantation methods.
The issue gained attention after concerns were raised over possible environmental damage and loss of green cover near the protected urban forest zone. The Supreme Court’s intervention has now temporarily halted any tree felling activity linked to the project.
The GHMC had earlier described the Grade Separator Corridor Project as part of its broader “Green Hyderabad” initiative aimed at balancing urban development with environmental conservation.
Officials are expected to present further details before the court regarding environmental safeguards and execution plans for the project.
