Hyderabad, August 21: Auto, cab and school van drivers in Telangana have announced a strike from midnight on August 23.
The strike will continue through August 24. Labour unions are demanding that the state government implement its earlier promises.

The unions said drivers across Telangana will participate in the protest.
Drivers Demand Welfare Board And New App
The drivers are seeking a dedicated welfare board for transport sector workers.
They also demanded a proportional increase in auto meter fares. They cited rising fuel and commodity prices as the reason.
Furthermore, the unions called for a government backed app to replace Ola, Uber and Rapido.
They also demanded implementation of a scheme providing Rs 12,000 in financial assistance to auto drivers.

According to estimates, Telangana has around 7.5 lakh auto drivers. Hyderabad alone accounts for nearly 2.5 lakh drivers.
The unions said the strike aims to press the government to address these demands.
