Hyderabad, Sept. 14: A dispute between shopkeepers over the display of goods outside a shop at Patel Market in Hyderabad’s Old City turned violent, with a group allegedly attacking shop owners and staff using knives, iron rods and sticks.
The dispute reportedly began with a verbal argument between one shopkeeper and the owners and staff of a neighbouring shop over the display of goods in front of their establishments.
The situation escalated after one side allegedly informed friends and relatives about the dispute. Soon, around 10 to 15 people reportedly arrived at the market carrying knives, iron rods and sticks.
The group allegedly attacked the neighbouring shop owners and employees, creating panic in the busy market area. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the location.
Charminar police examine CCTV footage
Based on a complaint from the victims, Charminar police registered a case and launched an investigation. Police are examining how the dispute over the shop display escalated into a violent clash and who brought the additional people to the spot.
Investigators are also checking whether the shop display dispute was the only reason for the attack or whether an earlier dispute was behind the confrontation.
Police are examining the CCTV footage to identify those involved in the attack. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
Meanwhile, traders in Patel Market have expressed concern after a similar incident was reportedly reported in the area within a week. Business owners fear that repeated clashes in the crowded commercial area could affect their safety.
