12 Zones, 60 Circles, Final Shape Of Mega GHMC Finalized
Hyderabad, Dec 26 (Maxim News): The mega city of Hyderabad is ready to compete with world-class cities. The final shape of the mega GHMC has been finalized. The state government recently issued a gazette extending the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) with an area of 650 square kilometers to 2,053 square kilometers beyond the Outer Ring Road. GHMC was declared as Greater Hyderabad with 300 divisions by merging 27 municipalities and corporations outside GHMC . Decentralization of powers has been initiated for administrative convenience within the expanded GHMC. The existing zones and circles have been doubled.
Previously, there were six zones in GHMC, but due to the expansion, it has now been increased to 12. Previously, there were 30 circles, but the authorities have decided to have 60 circles in the expanded GHMC. The process of expansion of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has finally come to an end. Amidst the power struggles and objections of the locals, GHMC has finally taken its final shape. It is learnt from reliable sources that zonal offices, circles and offices have also been finalized for them. The state government is yet to officially decide on the increased zones, circles and related offices. A gazette regarding this final re-division is yet to be issued.
Previously, there were 30 circles for 150 divisions, but now there are 60 circles for 300 divisions. There were Serilingampalli, Kukatpally, Charminar, LB Nagar, Khairatabad, and Secunderabad zones, but now they have been continued and Qutbullahpur, Malkajgiri, Uppal, Shamshabad, Golconda, and Rajendranagar zones have been decided. The entire Serilingampalli zone that existed earlier has changed. Only Miyapur, Serilingampalli, and Patancheru circles have been included. The merged Aminpur and Narsingi have been included. After the GHMC decided to expand, the residents of Thukkuguda area protested against their inclusion in the Charminar zone. However, suitable areas have been selected for the residents of the respective areas. The residents of Thukkuguda were brought under the Shamshabad zone.
Currently, three zones have been made for the old city. These include Golconda, Charminar and Rajendranagar. These include areas entirely belonging to the old city. The Qutbullahpur zone has the highest number of seven circles, followed by Rajendranagar zone with six circles. The Serilingampalli, Khairatabad, Golconda, Secunderabad, Uppal, Malkajgiri and Charminar zones have five circles, while Kukatpally, LB Nagar and Shamshabad have four circles. (Maxim News)
