Internet, July 19: At least 11 people have died after flash floods triggered by incessant heavy rain struck the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
Rivers and streams overflowed following continuous rainfall, inundating low lying areas and causing widespread damage. Several people are reported missing, and search operations are underway.
Flash Floods in Jammu and Kashmir Trigger Rescue Operations
Floodwaters entered residential areas, damaging houses and public infrastructure. Roads were washed away in several places, while vehicles were swept away by the strong currents, disrupting traffic.
Rescue teams have intensified operations to trace the missing and evacuate residents from vulnerable areas to safer locations.
The India Meteorological Department has warned of more heavy rainfall in parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the coming days.
Authorities have advised people to avoid rivers, streams and other flood prone areas until weather conditions improve.
The government is closely monitoring the situation and has stepped up relief and rehabilitation measures in the affected districts.
