Azharuddin Leads Resolution of Graveyard Land Allocation Issue
Hyderabad, Dec. 29 (Maxim News): In a significant move aimed at strengthening minority welfare and protecting public assets, the Congress government reaffirmed its commitment to social justice during a high level review meeting held at the Telangana State Secretariat on Monday. The meeting focused on the long pending Qabristan land allotment issue in the Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency and the protection of government lands.
The meeting was led by Minister for Minorities Welfare Mohammed Azharuddin, whose sustained efforts resulted in a decisive breakthrough on the Qabristan land issue. Revenue, Housing and Information and Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Jubilee Hills MLA Naveen Yadav, and Faheem Quraishi, Chairman of TIMRIS, attended the meeting along with senior officials and representatives of Qabristan Committees from Erragadda, Borabanda, and Shaikpet divisions.
During the discussions, Minister Mohammed Azharuddin placed the long standing hardships faced by minority communities before the government. He said residents of these divisions have been facing serious difficulties for decades due to the lack of proper burial grounds. Acting on his initiative, the issue was taken up at the highest level, leading to firm administrative directions and assurances.
Government lands are public assets
Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy stressed that government lands are public assets and made it clear that there would be zero tolerance for negligence or encroachment. He directed officials to take strict and foolproof measures to safeguard government lands, especially those meant for public welfare and minority needs.
To resolve the Qabristan land issue at the earliest, he instructed officials to ensure close coordination between the Revenue Department, Defence Department, and the Waqf Board. Wherever required, Revenue land will be transferred to the Defence Department and alternative land obtained in exchange, while suitable Revenue land will be handed over to the Waqf Board for burial grounds.
It was recalled in the meeting that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had assured that land allotment would be completed before December 31. With the decisive intervention led by Minister Mohammed Azharuddin, that assurance has now been fulfilled. Members of the Qabristan Committees from all three divisions presented their concerns, which were heard and addressed by the ministers.

Strict action against encroachments
The Revenue Minister warned that vested interests attempting to encroach upon government lands meant for the poor and for development activities will not be spared. He instructed officials to identify encroachments, issue notices, and reclaim such lands wherever necessary. District Collectors were directed to deal firmly and legally with disputed lands to ensure their protection.
Following the clear directions issued in the meeting, Collectors and senior officials were asked to complete all formalities without delay. The meeting concluded on a positive note and was described as a major success, bringing long awaited relief to residents of Erragadda, Borabanda, and Shaikpet.
Representatives of the Qabristan Committees expressed gratitude to Minister Mohammed Azharuddin for his constant follow up and strong advocacy. Minister Azharuddin thanked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for his support and said the Congress government remains firmly committed to resolving genuine minority issues across Telangana. (Maxim News)
