HYDRA to Restore Saroor Nagar Lake, Focus on Flood Control
Hyderabad, Jan. 21 (Maxim News): HYDRA Commissioner A V Ranganath said Saroor Nagar Lake would be restored and developed to support flood control and groundwater recharge. He said restoration works would begin soon after government approvals.
The commissioner clarified that existing residential structures within the lake boundary would not be disturbed. He said development would be limited to over 90 acres of the remaining lake area, out of the original 140 acres.
Ranganath said the Chief Minister had directed the restoration of major lakes in Hyderabad, including Saroor Nagar Lake.
Ranganath inspected the lake on Wednesday and said proposals would be submitted to the government. He added that works were expected to begin by March and be completed within a year.

Ranganath said lake restoration would go beyond cosmetic improvements. As part of the Saroor Nagar Lake restoration, 10 to 15 feet of silt would be removed to increase water holding capacity.
Ranganath said this would also help improve groundwater levels. Inlets and outlets would be redesigned to ensure proper flow.
The commissioner said steps would be taken with the Water Board to prevent sewage inflow. STP capacity would also be enhanced. He said the lake would be developed to play a key role in flood mitigation.
He added that eco-friendly development was planned around the lake. Medicinal plants would be planted, and parks would be developed along with the existing Indira Priyadarshini Park. Walking tracks, play areas, open gyms, and bund strengthening were also planned.
Local corporators welcomed the initiative and said Saroor Nagar Lake restoration would transform the area. HYDRA additional directors and officials accompanied the commissioner during the inspection. (Maxim News)
