Hyderabad: Rolls Royce plans to expand its business in India by collaborating on fighter jet engine development. The company said it will develop a 120 kilonewton class fighter jet engine for India. This project will be taken up in collaboration with the UK government.
Rolls Royce stated that the fighter jet engine will be developed with full technology transfer. The co development will also include transfer of IP ownership. Therefore, the company signaled a deeper role in India’s defence sector. It also expressed interest in expanding partnerships in defence, civil aviation and energy sectors.
Meanwhile, Rolls Royce CEO Tufan Erginbiljic met Prime Minister Modi in this context. During the meeting, the CEO conveyed the company’s intent to work closely with India. He said that he wants to be a partner in India’s progress. The statement highlights the company’s long term interest in the Indian market.
However, the focus remains on the development of the 120 kilonewton class fighter jet engine. The collaboration with the UK government adds strategic weight to the proposal. The commitment to full technology transfer and IP ownership transfer is also significant. It indicates that India will have access to key technologies under this arrangement.
