Party leaders are debating whether both seats will go to high command nominees or if one will be allotted to a state leader. As a result, aspirants have begun lobbying for consideration.

Several leaders are reportedly seeking the support of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and senior high command members.

Congress Eyes Renewal and New Faces for Rajya Sabha

Sources indicate that Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who will retire next month, is likely to receive another term. He was elected in a bypoll after K Keshava Rao resigned from the Rajya Sabha following his shift from BRS to Congress.

Since Singhvi served only two years, the leadership is said to favour his continuation from Telangana.

Meanwhile, the name of former Supreme Court judge Justice Sudarshan Reddy has surfaced. He had contested the Vice Presidential election as the INDIA bloc candidate but lost due to NDA’s numerical strength.

Party sources suggest that Congress may consider sending him to the Rajya Sabha as a compensatory move, if he agrees.

However, the high command has reportedly set conditions that leaders who lost recent MP or MLA elections may not be considered for nominated posts or Rajya Sabha seats.

Following the recommendation of Azharuddin for an MLC post under the Governor quota and his induction into the Cabinet, other leaders have stepped up efforts. Madhu Yashki and Shabbir Ali are also said to be in the race.

In addition, former Balkonda MLA Anil, who worked for the party’s victory in the 2023 Assembly elections, is reportedly seeking consideration for the Rajya Sabha seat.
